Okay, its bad enough that the economy is taking hits all around, and good jobs are being “outsourced” to India and who knows where … and the Virginia legislature certainly has enough “real work” to pay attention to, rather than to keep on kicking this mean-spirited dog of a Bill into law …
(Proposed by the Senate Committee for Courts of Justice on March 8, 2004)
(Patron Prior to Substitute–Delegate R. G. Marshall)A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 20-45.3, relating to the Affirmation of Marriage Act for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 20-45.3. Civil unions between persons of same sex.
A civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement between persons of the same sex purporting to bestow the privileges or obligations of marriage is prohibited. Any such civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement entered into by persons of the same sex in another state or jurisdiction shall be void in all respects in Virginia and any contractual rights created thereby shall be void and unenforceable.
The only hope to dump this deplorable bill now is to get Governor Warner to veto it.
Please note that this House Bill was signed and voted FOR by both
Delegate: Chap Petersen AND Senator: Jeannemarie Devolites.
Del “Chap” Petersen – 37th District – Dem Capital# (804) 698-1037 Fairfax # (703) 591-5133
Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites – 34th – Rep. Cap #(804) 698-7534 – (703) 938-7972
Sen. Devolites is divorced – why does her failed marriage mean she doesn’t believe I should have one?
